Watercolor On Canvas

These images are painted on fine-grade canvas (some treated and some untreated). All are ready-to-hang with fully painted, gallery-wrapped edges. On untreated canvas, the paint stains the fabric and tends to have a mind of its own - challenging but fun!

SOUL OF AN ARTIST
36"x18"  Mixed Media on Untreated Canvas (© 2014) --- It's always eye-opening to reflect on your process, which is what this piece explores. Exactly what sparks creativity? Often, for me, it is color. My reaction can be sudden, unplanned and explosive. Trying to impose order on a composition is an after-thought and a more external part of the process. The seeds of doubt always weave their way in as well. $750

SUMMER BLUES  48"x36"  Untreated Canvas (© 2014) --- Fish are so cool! This piece celebrates their graceful, watery forms. They seem to know something that we can't. SOLD to a private collection.

HEALING 40"x32" Untreated Canvas (© 2014) --- One day I visited a local field of sunflowers in full bloom. Not only was their beauty stunning, but they exerted an unexpected power over passers-by: Cars slowed down; people stopped and walked into the field; many left and then returned with cameras. That night I dreamed of someone who had been isolated by grief or depression, but who found themselves in a field of sunflowers and began to heal. This painting was born!  $850

PIROUETTE   6"x36" Untreated Canvas (© 2014) --- When couples dance well together, the figures are secondary to the movement they create. This image explores the sense of joy and freedom that good dancers convey without dwelling on the dancers themselves. $285

GLADIOLAS 24"x48" Treated Canvas (© 2014) --- These wonderful flowers bloom faithfully every year in my garden, and every year I am taken by their interesting folds and growth habit. The opportunity to paint a canvas in mostly red made them completely irresistible!  SOLD to a private collection.

THEY WENT THAT WAY
65"x30" Four Untreated Canvases mounted on decorative wood strips (© 2014) --- More art inspired by the garden. Japanese Maples always seem to have something to say. They are quirky and fabulous. This came from one that grows in my front yard, but only seems to like growing in one direction! SOLD to a private collection.

NONCONFORMIST 24"x48" Treated Canvas (© 2014) --- Flamingos are awkward, surprising, powerful and iconic. In other words - perfect art! So what happens if they aren't pink anymore? Are they still flamingos?  $850

SMALL BIRDS 10"x8" Three Untreated Canvases mounted on decorative wood pieces (© 2014) --- Just dipping a toe into an Asian painting style - trying to combine a limited palette (with red, of course), minimalist line and repetition of form. It all started because I like small things, and I was watching some small birds hopping around outside and thought they deserved their own small canvases!  $275

HARBOR 16"x20" Treated Canvas (© 2014) --- Busy harbors (this one is in Copenhagen) deserve bright, happy colors even if that isn't what you might see if you visited.  SOLD to a private collection.
Picture

QUEST 36"x48"  Untreated Canvas (© 2014) --- The juxtaposition of strength and vulnerability is powerful. The willingness to reach into the unknown, explore your dreams, or come to a new understanding of yourself requires both.  $925
Picture

MOONSTRUCK  24"x36"  Untreated Canvas (© 2014) --- In today's fast-paced world of flickering images and sound bites, the ability to be 'lost in thought' should be sought after and prized. Whether you are bathed in the glow of moonlight or just waiting for an appointment, seize the moment to daydream.  $750
